Physiotherapists specialise in movement and function disorders and are therefore the perfect professionals to prescribe appropriate exercises for your needs. You may require an exercise program after an injury, as part of your rehabilitation following surgery, as a preventative measure or management option in the case of a chronic condition or lifestyle problem.
Your individual exercise program may include home based exercises using just your body, small weights or elastic resistance bands; hydrotherapy or water-based exercises; individual or class pilates; gym based exercises or any combination of these.
What are Gym Programs?
Miami Physiotherapy has a dedicated rehabilitation gym area in our purpose built facility. We have a selection of specific gym and weights equipment to allow you to complete your personally designed and health targeted exercise program. We also have a range of pilates studio equipment, including a reforma and wunderchair that can be utilised to gain maximum health benefits as part of your program. In addition, we use our group exercise area for small group pilates classes with more class options coming soon.
To access our gym and pilates equipment you will first require an appointment in our clinic so that we can assess and diagnose your health issue so that your gym based exercise program can be tailored to your individual needs.
We will provide you with a written program, and teach you the correct technique with the gym machines and weights. A gym program can be aimed at improving the strength or endurance of a specific region, (such as your shoulder after an injury or surgery), or may be a generalised program for health improvement (for example weight-loss, diabetes management, return to work programs) or prevention of health conditions (such as weight maintenance, prevention of osteoporosis, prevention of re-injury).
If you feel confident with your program after the initial set-up, you may continue independently, but we are happy to attend the gym with you as many times as you require to supervise and progress your program. We expect you to complete your gym based exercise program at least twice per week, as guided by your physiotherapist for the best possible outcome and expect results in as little as 6 weeks.
