Physio Classes and Pilates
At Miami Physiotherapy we aim to provide the best care for our patients and utilize the latest evidence-based practice. That is why we offer both Physio Rehab Classes (lead by a physiotherapist) and Pilates classes (lead by a pilates instructor).
These classes improve your core stability, flexibility and control. Improving your core stability has been shown to reduce your chance of back pain recurrence from 80% to less than 30% (maintained over 4 years). For this reason, many of our clients successfully manage their back issue and are able to return to their hobbies and sports by participating in Physio Rehab Classes or Pilates classes.
It is also widely reported in the scientific literature that the best form of treatment for arthritic joints such as knees and hips is improving the movement and strength around these joints. By building and maintaining the strength of the muscles around the problem joint, some of the impact forces are transferred through the muscles rather than the bones, therefore offloading and decreasing the force and pain felt at these joints. It is like building a muscular scaffold around your sore joint! These joints need low impact strengthening and range of motion exercises, such as our Physio Rehab Classes or hydrotherapy.
What is the difference between our Pilates Classes and Physio Rehab Classes?
Physiotherapists are trained to assess injuries, health issues and to provide the required rehab for these problems. As such, we run Physio Rehab Classes lead by physiotherapists which include core training, as well as strengthening and stretching. The physios running these classes will individually assess each participant to determine their health issue/injury and exercise needs and will provide individualised exercises within the class format. Whilst you are under the plan of your physiotherapist these Physio Rehab Classes may be eligible to claim on your private health insurance. Once you have completed your rehabilitation, you may still attend but will not be able to claim on private health insurance.
The types of health problems that our classes may help include low back pain, neck pain, mid back pain, shoulder weakness/rotator cuff weakness, gluteal weakness/tendinopathies, patella-femoral syndromes (knee cap pain) and lower limb weakness. However, If you have been assessed as having a chronic health condition requiring ongoing exercise intervention, you may be able to claim Private Health Insurance rebates whilst remaining on a physiotherapy plan. The types of chronic issues that may benefit from a Physio Rehab Class include (but are not limited to) osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, diabetes, rheumatoid type/inflammatory arthritis’, fibromyalgia, sarcopenia (muscle weakness and wasting), degenerative disc disease/spondylosis and chronic pain conditions.
Pilates instructors are trained at delivering an exceptional pilates service to meet the needs of peoples’ health and fitness. Our instructors will use floor-based mat exercises, small equipment and studio equipment (such as reformers and wunda chairs).
Pilates Classes
Classes at Miami Physiotherapy are led by our Pilates trained physiotherapists. Our classes are small, allowing your physiotherapist to correct your movements if needed, giving you the best chance of enjoying all the benefits associated with Pilates exercise.
Please contact us for a timetable of our classes.
Although Pilates is a low impact form of exercise you should seek medical advice before embarking on any new exercise program.
