Tennis elbow (also known as lateral epicondylagia) is a condition where the tendons from your forearm muscles that attach to the outside of your elbow become inflamed and painful. It is commonly associated with overuse, and not necessarily just from tennis, but any repetitive actions at the wrist, including spending all day typing on a computer!

Another condition – golfers elbow – is very similar, however results in pain on the inside of the elbow instead.

Both conditions can be very limiting with your work or exercise, and it is important to get on top of them as soon as possible. Treatment for these conditions can involve resting, shockwave therapy, dry needling and massage, however it is always important to re-build your strength to ensure the tendon becomes healthy, and the problem does not re-occur.

If you think you may be suffering from tennis elbow or golfers elbow, have a look at my recent video on the first step of exercises that can help. This can be used for pain relief and to start strengthening the tendon and muscles. If you are unable to improve your symptoms, you may need to come to physio for further assessment and treatment.
